from: Importance of Sunglasses

Sunglasses became a sudden must-have in the 1950s and serve its use as an ideal fashion statement. Not only that the celebrities have been wearing it but also the common people. Sunglasses began to be worn not only outdoors but indoors and nights as well. You have to put on your sunglasses to be seen by the society as cool or trendy.

This give birth to many designs of sunglasses at categorized into the thickness of frame, the colors of the lens and the purpose to where you will be using it.

Aviators type like the Ray-Ban Aviator is still popular today and the oversized sunglasses are still in the list of choices of consumers. Moreover, to cater the growing trend of wearing sunglasses to nightclubs, faded lens comes in handy to the market.

But on top of being a fashion statement, sunglasses are still worn for its actual purpose. That is to protect the eyes.

Sunglasses or sun glasses are a visual aid, variously termed spectacles or glasses, used to prevent strong light from reaching the eyes.

Many find it hard to stay outdoors with direct sunlight far from being comfortable. Healthcare professionals recommend eye protection whenever outside to protect the eyes from ultraviolet radiation, which can lead to the development of a cataract.

Too much exposure to ultra violet, or UV rays can cause both short and long term ocular problems. Such problems include photokeratitis, snow blindness, cataracts and various eye cancers. Medical experts warn the public often about the use of UV blocking sunglasses.

Sunglasses can also improve visual comfort and visual clarity by protecting the eye from glare, impact, debris, dust, or chemicals. This is particularly true when used by policemen and also those into sports like skydiving and being at the sea.

Smoke spectacles, another term for sunglasses, are also used by people to hide visual impairments like those of the blind. Or like with emotional context if your eyes is swollen due to crying.

Still, experts deny the correlation between the prices of the sunglasses to be better than the less expensive ones. Just because sunglasses are higher priced does not necessarily make them better at protecting against UV rays or against impact. Expensive brands do not guarantee optimal UV protection, so price is not an indicator of quality.

One study found that a pair of sunglasses costing seven dollars a pair had better protection against UV rays than one of the name brand designers. Sunglasses for children are also very important. Childrens ocular lenses are thought to transmit more HEV light than adults. This can cause yellowing with the eyes with age. HEV has been implicated as the cause of age-related macular degeneration.

Here is only a few of the importance of wearing sunglasses. Since there have not been a strict compliance on the standards posed by authorities, it will be great, though we badly needed to buy one, to take precaution prior to purchasing. It is very vital that we spend a little time in search for the sunglasses that would be fit for its intended use and good looking enough to frame the eyes.
